Oh, I wasn't speaking of birthdays? At least not here? Sorry. grumble grumble damn sequeways whatever grumble.
Drew would like everyone to know that he is now, as of last Friday, officially five and a HALF. This is important. He is now on his way to being six, and this is good, this is progress, despite what the stupid height requirement measuring stick for the Dragon roller coaster at Legoland says. And, now begins the planning for the spectacle that will be his sixth birthday.
Actually he's been working on this plan for a few weeks. Every time there is a lull in the conversation, any conversation, like at dinner, when someone stops talking long enough to stick a fork in their mouth, Drew starts in. "So. About my birthday..." he says. Or in the car, say, on the way to karate. "Mom, are you sure you can get a Spiderman jumpy big enough to hold all my friends? Should we get the cake from Costco? Do they have Spiderman cakes at Costco, or will we have to go to the grocery store for that?" Or, maybe even at the preschool, while we are picking up Will for the day. "Hey Mr. Thiessen, did Will tell you that I am going to invite his best friend Eva to my birthday party, so that Will has someone to play with and won't be left out. That's important, you know, that he not be left out, but he might not be big enough to play with us, you know, my friends, the big kids, in the Spiderman jumpy. So I'm going to invite Eva, and Nathan and Samantha, too."
He's inviting everyone he's ever met in his entire life to this shindig. His kindergarten classmates AND all their siblings, his friends from last year at preschool, and of course, as mentioned, all of WIll's friends from preschool. His karate friends from both his class and the class after his, and also their siblings. His sunday school friends and their siblings. Also our neighborhood friends, siblings, and possibly cousins...oh, and anyone he meets between now and then. And their siblings. And possibly, their pets. This is going to be one big party, taking place 6 months from now. And he cannot wait.
