Remember when SNL was funny? Like for the whole hour and a half, not just for one segment every three or four weeks?
Anyway. I had a colonoscopy last friday, and there appears to be nothing wrong with my colon. Once again, everything is all pink and healthy and nobody has any explanations, they just shrug their shoulders and say, Yeah, dunno. You're free to go. That'll be $15,000 please.
It struck me, when my doctor first said they would want to schedule the appointment several weeks out to make sure that the infection in my colon was gone, that it didn't make sense to do that. Wouldn't they want to see the infection up close, to garner more information from it?
Have you have had a new car with a chronic problem? I have. Right out of college, I purchased a little Mazda, brand new from the dealership. My older car that got me through school was crapping out and I was spending too much money to fix it constantly, it didn't seem worth it anymore. So I bought this brand new car, and it had this weird problem where the check engine light came on randomly. Not every time, but occasionally, when I started the car, this light would come on. By the time I would get back to the dealership and say, this light comes on, they would start it up and it would never do it. And the technician would say, unless the light is actually on, I can't pull the code from the computer to find out why it's doing that.
I wonder if our bodies aren't kind of like that. Who knows.
The good news is, I do not have any signs of Crohn's disease. And they have no reason to think that the weirdness this time around is related to the weirdness twenty years ago. Maybe that was all in my head. The bad news, I supposed, is that I really wanted all the weirdness to be tied together with a neat little bow and a LIST OF ANSWERS, IS THAT SO FREAKING WRONG?
Whatever it is, I guess if it's only going to bother me every twenty years, I can live with that.
In other news, school starts tomorrow, thank the little baby Jesus, and now I can go back to obsessing about my kids' issues instead of my own. Bonus!
