Earlier today, I was out in the yard with our exchange student, turning over rocks looking for bugs he can take into school for Zoology class. I was complaining about the weeds growing in among the newly seeded grass since we've had so much rain.
Him: weeds is a drug, right?
Me: OH! No. Not that kind of weed. That's a nickname for marijuana. It's a plant. A weed is something that grows up through the grass.
Him: Right. A plant that is a drug. Weed. Also I heard it was called grass sometimes.
Me: Yes. No! Not exactly. It depends. Weed is just a nickname for a plant that grows in a place where you don't want it. But yes, it's also a nickname for the drug marijuana. Grass is also a nickname for marijuana, but it isn't the same as this grass. I don't have marijuana growing wild in my yard. This isn't Breaking Bad: Leawood edition.
