Monday, my first official Day By Myself, was another firedrill. I really did wonder if maybe they were just fucking with me, but alas no, so line up and go outside kids.
Today was an assembly, an exercise in patiently trying to keep the kids patient while they sit on the floor and try not to touch each other or move their bodies to the music of the middle school jazz band performance. Mission: Not accomplished.
Key thing I've learned this week: Even the kindergarteners stink after recess when it's 90 degrees outside.
PS - If you're local and looking to find us to drop off donated books for our Books for Alabama campaign, we now have a bin at the UPS Store at 135th & Metcalf in Overland Park. Thanks for all the donations!
Love it! It won't take long before you master the look-of-death-but-see-I'm-smiling face that instantly strikes fear and induces stillness in even the most spastic child. I actually had a mom comment, "I like to watch you at mass. You really take time to connect and smile at the kids. It's nice that they are able to share the experience with an adult." Yep. THAT was what was happening. :-)
